Shawana Thorne

Shawana Thorne has been with Cyndi’s Hair Salon since 2008.  Originally from Durham, Shawana attended Durham High School.  It was there she met her mentor, Tony Cozart, who hired her as a shampoo assistant for his salon, Via Cozart’s.   Shawana worked for Mr. Cozart for three years and eventually moved over to Studio 200 in Durham from 1991-2003.  Her focus then, as now, is on the lifestyle of the busy career woman.  In 2003, Shawana opened her own salon to spend more time with her son, Timothy II. 

In December, 2008, Shawana joined Cyndi’s Hair Salon in the Hope Valley area of Durham which she now calls home.  The majority of her clients are long term clients for as long as 20 years.  As an early riser Shawana begins her clients as early as four in the morning until later in the evening.

“My focus and specialty is the restoration of damaged, over processed hair into healthy hair.  In addition specializing in a variety of modern haircuts, relaxing, and hair coloring. I love all of my clients and try to accommodate their schedules which accounts for my early morning hours.  98% of my clients are referrals.  I love mentoring other stylists, the way Tony Cozart mentored me years ago.  I look forward to helping our team at Cyndi’s grow as a team.”

Cyndi Kartaoui has been a successful hairstylist in the Durham/Chapel Hill area for 20 years.  Opening her own hair studio in 2003, she has achieved her goal of bringing style and class, along with experience to the studio.  She has incorporated her European travels to bring culture and vibrance to each person who comes in her studio.  She wants her clientele to feel as though they have had an experience- not just an appointment when they leave! 

Kelly Cook

Kelly Cook has been a hairstylist in the Raleigh/Durham area for over eleven years, beginning with her training at Mitchell's hairstyling academy.

For most of Kelly's career she has focused on giving her clients the best hair color and cut for their face, coloring and hair type.  It has always been a passion of Kelly's to keep her clients hair as healthy and naturally beautiful during any and all chemical services. "Healthy hair is beautiful hair". It is also a passion for Kelly to use the best products for you and the earth. She tries to support companies that are environmentally conscious and in doing so gives you healthier choices.

Kelly has for many years continued to keep up with industry trends by attending local and national training facilities, which keeps her energized and inspired to create the most up-to-date styles and color techniques for her clients.

Kelly's other interests include doing hair and make-up for her local film maker husband Ajit Anthony, reading, mixed media art, sewing, and playing with her furry baby dog, Apu.
